Emperor
The Third Terran Empire is a strict hierarchical society with the Emperor wielding absolute power. The subjects of the Imperium are kept in check by a cadre of nobles in servitude to the Emperor. In exchange for loyalty, the Emperor grants these families vast swaths of territory and access to superior technology. Because of the Emperor's favor, these families live a life of opulence and influence. Nobles that stray from the path quickly feel the sting of the Imperium Navy and have their access to the hyperspace navigation and communication networks revoked. Without the support and protection of the Emperor these families quickly wither, and their territories are eagerly absorbed by their rivals.
Dochas
Originally nothing more than a bureaucratic construct for the classification and administration of imperial holdings, after centuries of this categorization the great houses began to strongly identify with the dochas to which that had been assigned. Throughout the long history of the numerous Terran empires, great wars have been waged between the nobles of each dochas. At the birth of the Third Terran Empire, only Dochas Agam has been sanctioned by the Emperor. As humanity's influence once again waxes across the stars, doubtless many of the great dochases will rise from the obscurity of history.
Great Houses
For extraordinary service to the empire, families are elevated to nobility and granted a fief initially composed of five habitable planets. While individual leaders rise and fall, it is the family that perseveres and has its name written in the annals of the Imperium.
Noble Ranks
All new plays are assigned the rank of Knight Initiate along with a starting fief of five habitable worlds. For service to the Emperor, players are promoted to higher ranks.
